Site News
I'll be on vacay this weekend so no bonus posts, but it's a good time to share site news.
Almost Done
The Welcome to Charlottesville series is almost finished. We have about three more posts—maybe I’ll add a fourth too.
The series has been made up of three different “threads”—(1) Times I’ve moved to Charlottesville, (2) The Police Stories project, and (3) the history of the area. Just a heads up, I’m not sure if I’ll keep the same order as I’ve been following.
As the weeks have passed it’s getting harder and harder for newcomers to figure out where to start, so this is hopefully a simpler index. And if you missed some posts and want to go back, here’s everything in the series:
If you’re interested in reading the series in order, here are links:
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11, Part 12
Or you can read each of the threads as a separate series:
Personal history:
First Time (when I was a preschooler)
Second Time (when I was a teenager)
Third Time (when I was a young adult)
Fourth Time (when I was married with a child)
Yet to be written: The Fifth Time (when I’m old)
Police Stories Project:
Police Stories 4: Unite the Right
Yet to be written: Police Stories 5: The Aftermath
History of the area:
Yet to be written: The Next 50 years.
Extras
Some of the ‘bonus posts’ are about current events and oddities, but a few fit in with the WTCV series:
The Hate That Dares Not Speak Its Name
Deindustrial Ficiton
Speaking of the future, I have a story coming out in the Summer issue of New Maps. New Maps is a magazine edited by the whip-smart Nathanael Bonnell dedicated to deindustrial fiction. This is fairly new genre of science-fiction that explores possible futures that don’t involve space travel or limitless energy, but also don’t assume Mad Max dystopias.
I have a story coming out in the Summer issue. Isn’t it a fine looking thing?! You can order copies of this or other issues of New Maps here.
What’s Next for Blame Cannon
After finished Welcome to Charlottesville, Blame Cannon will venture further afield. I’ve been planning to return to the Monacans, explore more of America before the European arrival and up to the mid-18th century, look more into contemporary housing and the homelessness crisis, and share more about cities.
What do you want more of?
Once WTCV is done, the bonus posts will probably become paid-subscriber only, WTCV will probably move to a paid-subscriber viewing only (so read it now while it’s free!) and I’ll use the money raised from the subscriptions to work on the diorama and to fund a WTCV play this spring.
More on that in a couple weeks!
Thanks for reading Blame Cannon!
