I would love to subscribe without using the credit card I have registered with Apple. Any chance you could offer PayPal?

Hi Dorothy! Thanks so much for reading!

Honestly, there might be a way to pay with PayPal, but I'm so new to Substack that I haven't figured out the ins and outs of the paid subscriptions. (I've had several but I don't know how the money gets to me.)

Right now all the content is still free, so can you just sign up for free subscription (if you haven't) and I'll email you when/if I figure out how it all works?

Excellent article. I use to do a Monacan presentation in the schools as representative of the Virginia museum of natural history… my focus was how they survived off of the land in their culture… wasting no part of a hunted deer or turkey, etc. I also have learned how to say mono su KA pa now. 🥰

Such great information. I had no idea there was an Indian village just up the road. Thank you for this wonderful article. I have enjoyed your other articles I have read and look forward to more. Thank you!

This was great!! I want to go to that museum. And I have friends that live close to the village location. How strange to note they've been right at this spot of history for 50 years and probably don't even know it. I'll watch for your next stories.

Thanks for reading, Jeronimous!

"Human history: Not like a Grateful Dead concert." That could be the title.

"What made the English, or the Spanish, Mongols, Visigoths, or Huns suddenly go from minding their own business and living close to nature to taking everything that wasn’t nailed down and killing anyone who objected?"

Probably the same reasons as the Aryans, Parthians, Abbasids, Umayads, Mughals, Vikings, Assyrians, Romans, Lombards, Vandals, Visigoths, Guptas, Jutes, Saxons, Ottomans, Seljuks...it's not like like was a mellow Dead concert at any point in human history. Alas

*Thanks for this. It's really interesting to learn about the Monacans and imagine what the landscape and life patterns were like prior to contact w Jamestown settlers.*
